We Want More

Brisbane's Glam rock band

Glam rock and over the top fashion, a group of guys who never quite got over the seventies describes the band ‘We Want More’.  The band’s name came about  “so that the audience would have something sensible to shout between the songs instead of the usual abuse!” says Dr Sparkle, bass guitarist of the group.  The band has been together a little less than a year.

Fan of Sweet and Slade the band creates the fun side of seventies music.  Dr Sparkle who’s real identify will remain confidential, said he loves all those seventies songs that have energy and drive.  As far as being part of a band with alias names Dr Sparkle comments, “It’s fun!  The guys are covered with glitter and hair and sparkles and who doesn’t like doing that!”

When asked if they would be playing any David Cassidy songs in the future one of the band members commented that my next request would be the Bay City Rollers!   Well, I had to put them straight, so I informed them that David Cassidy was in a different league to the Bay City Rollers.  At least David did actually sing and play guitar and write some of his own music.  To my surprise, instead of the usual bantering I receive when mentioning David Cassidy, Dr Sparkle informed me that his wife was a David Cassidy fan.  So I knew nothing more had to be said on that subject, even though I did get Dr Sparkle to admit that David Cassidy is actually talented!

The stage names of the band are as follows.  Lead singer is Reddy Freddy, lead guitarist is Glam Keef, on saxophone (apparently the cute one since he is the baby of the group) is Randy Stardust who also plays guitar, on drums is Eddie Glitter, and last but not least, my interviewee, bass guitarist Dr Sparkle who reminded me of Noddy Holder (who was the lead singer from Slade).  Oh, did I mention I was only two years old when Slade and David Cassidy were popular!

The group participated in the Kidz 2 Kidz Peace Concert held at Brisbane's City Hall in November, 2005 and it was a big smash with the audience.  On 13 April, 2006  'We Want More'  performed at the Arana Leagues Club, Keperra (Brisbane) where a wide range of ages danced, rocked and grooved to the band's music.  At this event it did not matter if you were born in the seventies, partying in the seventies, had parents or even grandparents who were born or partying in the seventies, 'We Want More' enticed different ages onto the dance floor.  On the night there was no sign of any generation gap, where many took full advantage of the band's glam seventies style. I am positive in relation to the group's performance and the hope of another encore, people at the band's show would not hesitate to shout out (without any abuse towards the band!), simply,  'we want more!'
